The Australian Business Enterprise Centre (“ABEC”) (formerly known as the Eastern Region Business Enterprise and Arts Centre Inc.) was established under a small Board of Management at the Midland enterprise Centre (now the Midland Junction Arts Centre) about 30 years ago.  With assistance from Government funding, it commenced a small business incubator operation including art space.

Over a period of time, ABEC established itself as leader in providing business incubator space in the region.  Unfortunately, Government funding was no longer available so we became a training facilitator providing income for the organisation to continue its operation.

Later we established a joint venture with the Commonwealth Government and were successful in having our own premises in Midland.  We established kitchen incubators, maintained our business incubators model and continued with our training facility.

Throughout its existence, ABEC and its Board have, in their independent experience, been aware of many different community groups or individuals who have demonstrated worthy intentions/achievements but suffered diminished results for want of financial support.

The non-profit sector in Australia, also known as the not for profit and community sector, encompasses a wide range of social institutions currently there are approximately 177,000 non-profit organisations in Australia. They are well known to improve the quality of life through works/projects, celebrations and events while bringing people from all cultures and ethnicity together. Nearly all not-profit groups rely on funding in the form of grants, donations and sponsorship from all levels of  government or the general public to remain active.

Our Constitution empowers us to make contributions to or otherwise support charitable or benevolent bodies, whether incorporated or unincorporated, and to make donations for any public purpose connected with the activities of ABEC or with the furtherance of its objectives. With the realisation of ABEC’s assets, our Board has decided it is now time to make those funds available for distribution for such purposes.
